Datadrivers is part of CAP-Group, Finland's largest promoter of road safety. The company develops digital solutions for driver training and traffic education, including Webauto (an ERP system for driving schools), a training platform for professional drivers in logistics companies, plus driving simulators and services for private driving instruction permits.
Datadrivers set out to launch two new digital product brands and, at the same time, build entirely new e-commerce platforms for both. Codemate was selected as the implementation partner.
The collaboration resulted in two new online stores: Logimaster.com for professional driver training and Drivano.com for private driving instruction.
Digital services at the core of the business
Datadrivers operates in a market where digital services play an increasingly central role. Maintaining professional driver qualifications requires regular training, and a large proportion of drivers now purchase their training online.
The company’s previous Fleetskills solution had long served as a sales channel, but required users to register before making a purchase, which added friction to the buying journey.
"Our goal was to remove friction from the purchasing process and make it as easy as possible to buy training," says Juho Kinnunen, Chief Product Officer at Datadrivers.
At the same time, Datadrivers saw an opportunity to modernise its consumer-facing services. While the company already offered opetuslupa.fi for private driving instruction, it wanted to create a new, more modern brand to better support service development and enable international expansion.
Following a legislative change in 2018, private driving instruction has grown significantly, with just over 40% of licence applicants now learning to drive under such arrangements. CAP-Group has evolved alongside this market shift, and Datadrivers recognised the opportunity to expand its digital product portfolio.
This led to the creation of Drivano, a modern service and product brand that combines e-commerce with a learning solution integrated into Datadrivers’ own application. Drivano brings together all the services, products and guidance required for private driving instruction in one place, making them available nationwide through a single platform.
A technical partner for building two e-commerce platforms
Datadrivers is a product-focused software company, but its product portfolio is extensive.
"Although we have streamlined our product development and clarified our portfolio, we still have many initiatives running in parallel. For this project, we needed a partner who could take full responsibility for the technical implementation with a proactive approach," Kinnunen explains.
Codemate was selected from a shortlist of potential partners.
"We felt that Codemate truly understood what we were building. After meeting the technical team beforehand, we were confident the project would succeed," Kinnunen recalls.
The project delivered two e-commerce platforms built on a shared WordPress Multisite architecture, enabling future country-specific versions on a common technical foundation.
The solution was deployed in Seravo's hosting environment and integrated with Datadrivers' internal systems. Custom WordPress plugins were developed to connect the stores with the Logimaster and Drivano applications.
Payments were handled via Svea payment service, and the solution was designed to support multilingual content, multiple currencies and international expansion.
Smooth collaboration and a clear way of working
In the project, Datadrivers was responsible for product ownership, design and customer insight, while Codemate focused on technical delivery.
The collaboration model was intentionally lightweight: weekly meetings, daily check-ins via shared communication channel, monthly steering group sessions, and ad hoc meetings when needed.
Kinnunen particularly highlights Codemate’s way of working:
I really appreciated how proactively the Codemate team communicated. We always knew where things stood, and any blockers were raised immediately.
This clarity allowed both teams to focus on what mattered:
"Once the ways of working were agreed at the start and consistently followed, it was easy to focus on decisions and problem-solving related to the e-commerce solution—rather than how we collaborate."
From Codemate's perspective, the project was equally rewarding.
"This was a very interesting project for us. We got to build two different e-commerce solutions on a shared technical foundation and work closely with the Datadrivers team," says Codemate developer Ville Pikkarainen.
"Datadrivers’ design team provided high-quality, comprehensive designs for the WordPress implementation, making theme development smooth. The dialogue around implementation details and technical decisions was seamless, and together we quickly achieved a lightweight, modern end result," adds developer Pekka Vesala.
Two new e-commerce platforms launched
The collaboration resulted in two distinct but technically aligned online stores:
Logimaster – An e-commerce platform for professional driver training, enabling qualified drivers to purchase legally required online courses seamlessly and start them immediately, even on the same day, via the Logimaster application.
Drivano – A nationwide service for private driving instruction simplifying the process for both instructors and students. The platform enables everything required for private instruction to be purchased in one place online.
Logimaster's new online store streamlines the purchasing process and increases sales by removing unnecessary friction from what was previously a cumbersome buying journey.
For Drivano, the focus was on building a new brand and scalable digital service enabling Datadrivers to grow its market share in private driving instruction and expand internationally in the future.
"Collaboration was easy and we focused on the right things"
Kinnunen is pleased with the outcome:
Working with Codemate has been highly rewarding and straightforward. We were able to focus on the right things and achieved exactly the results we were aiming for.
Juho Kinnunen, Chief Product Owner, Datadrivers
He would also recommend Codemate to others:
"Absolutely. The collaboration has worked well and the projects were delivered efficiently."
"Logimaster and Drivano were exceptionally successful projects, as both were delivered on schedule and within budget—without needing to reduce scope," says Business Director Kristian Jaakola.
